Road to 31 Devotional - Day 30 - “In The Now”

Listen to “In The Now” off of my new mixtape https://soundcloud.com/jeannie-ortega-2/in-the-now…

It took me sooo long before I was able to live in the now and not keep looking back to my past. So often we spend our time living off of yesterday’s experiences and miss out on the new thing currently happening in our life. Picture seeing someone walking down the street with their head turned, looking back the whole time, do you know how dangerous that is? I found myself in that situation many times and would just keep getting myself into the same mess I always used to because I couldn’t see what was right in front of me.

Becoming a Christian means you become new, you get a restart and who you were, no longer has to define you. That is what happens in the spiritual realm but in the natural, we can choose to live in the past and completely negate our new found freedom. For me, I had to mentally cut ties with all the excuses I once had to hold me back.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

Luke 9:62 “Jesus said to him, ‘No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God’.”

Jesus warned that if we’re distracted by what’s behind us, we would not represent His kingdom, therefore are not fit for it. I think the same even goes for spiritual things. For the longest time, not too long ago, I kept trying to go back to how on fire I was when I first got saved and God corrected me. He doesn’t even want us living off of yesterday’s blessing or anointing. He is God, always creating, always making new and always going from glory to glory and strength to strength.

I had to challenge my faith to believe God moving forward and not focus on what was before. I found that living in the now and looking forward provides endless opportunities and forces my faith to rise and believe greater than ever. I even challenged my heart to not treat people based on what had been done to me in the past but instead do like Jesus does, love like I’ve never been hurt.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

2 Corinthians 3:18 “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

Reflection: On your journey of life, are you living in the

present and looking ahead? If not, you can embrace a new life in Jesus. We all have a past that longs to haunt us and keep us a prisoner to it but Jesus said He came that we may have abundant life, forgetting what’s behind, embracing who we truly are in Him and starting new. The world may offer second chances here and there but God offers unlimited chances. There’s no time to start over like the present.
