ROAD to 31 Devotional - Day 12 - "That's Life"

Listen to "That's Life" from my new mixtape https://m.soundcloud.com/jeannie-ortega-2/thats-life

Growing up is rough when reality hits and you realized that life is not always gonna be summertime, playdates, and rainbows. I wrote my song "That's Life" when I had grown up an discovered the road could be very lonely at times. It's almost like we all wear rose-colored glasses of adolescents and one day our vision changes and we see everything for what it is. Man, how I wished I could sing that Toys R Us song forever. 🎶"I Don't wanna grow up...." 🎶 but whether I wanted to or not, I grew up and life became real. Responsibility learned my name and I would have to mature quickly whether I wanted it to or not.

1 Corinthians 13:11 "When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways."

When I decided to give my heart to Jesus and let Him lead my life it got even lonelier because not everyone I had around me was ready to take that step for themselves. That would serve as another hard life lesson for me. I wanted everyone to come on this journey of freedom but for some, the price was too high. So I had to learn to not rely on anyone fully except God. I took comfort in knowing that Jesus too was abandoned or despised and ridiculed by many but still He stayed on course to fulfill His destiny during His time on earth.

Proverbs 18:24 "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."

John 15:18-23 “[Jesus said] If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin."

Now as time went by I would discover that I was never alone. God was with me, even before I acknowledged Him. As a child, He was there to whisper, 'it'd be ok.' As a teen, He'd say, 'Don't give up, there's more.' And as an adult, I'd come to realize He was with me all along giving me the grace to run this race so that one day I could say - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)

Philippians 1:6 "And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ"

Reflection: Have you been accustomed to saying - That's Life, It is what it is or Que sera, sera? Well, Jesus shows us that regardless of the narrative of the world- we never have to settle, there's more to life and greater.

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
