Listen to “Right Where I Wanna Be” from my new mixtape https://soundcloud.com/jeannie-orte…/right-where-i-wanna-be…
When you are so used to things going bad and it suddenly changes it almost seems like a dream. I never knew I was such a negative person until I started reading the word of God and it challenged me to see the beauty in everything, even in trials. Up until that point I was so, negative, pessimistic and cynical. Growing up in the tough city of New York would do that to you, even at the tender age of 16-20.
I use to love the saying laugh now, cry later– because I felt like that was what my life was always like. At times I even feared the idea of being happy because I knew something bad was around the corner. That’s exactly what the enemy wanted me to feel.
John 10:10 “[Jesus Said] The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
That rotten devil was always on my back trying to steal my joy, peace and freedom in God. He often lied to me about people also – “They don’t really love you, he can’t really be that good, nothing good can come of that.” When I wrote the song “Right Where I Wanna Be,” I had been on a serious positive streak for months (stayed away from negative people, only watched and listen to inspiring things) and I was determined not to let anything break my spirit.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
I felt better, simply because I made up my mind to. I learned how to change how I reacted to challenging things in life through the filter of God’s truth. Joyce Meyer has an incredible teaching called the “Battlefield of the Mind” where She teaches how to deal with the thousands of thoughts that people think every day and how to focus the mind the way God thinks. That revolutionized my life because I was able to see that even the bad things that happen in life don't change the fact that God is working on my behalf.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:35-39 “Who/What shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Challenge: Are you willing to turn from your negative way of thinking and accept God’s truth about you and everything that concerns you? Will you avoid listening to or watching things that put you in a negative place?
Even if you believe that’s the way you are, I tell you this– Jesus makes ALL THINGS new. Receive His freedom and start walking in his marvelous light. Your life will never be the same <3
