ROAD to 31 Devotional Day 20- "Beginning"

Updated: Jun 27, 2018

Listen to "Beginning" from my new mixtape https://m.soundcloud.com/jeannie-ortega-2/the-beginning-ortegabarry-demo-10-22-09?in=jeannie-ortega-2/sets/road-to-31-mixtape-jeannie

Usually going back to the beginning seems counter-productive but when it comes to the moment you decided to change your life for good, it could really help keep you on course. At one point things got so overcomplicated for me that the enemy was tempting me to just throw in the towel because I couldn't remember the whole point of it all. I allowed life's circumstances and flawed people to distract me from the reason I even decided to follow Jesus in the first place. I forgot the beginning of my relationship with Him and how broken I was beforehand that it was only His love that could reach me.

Revelation 2:4

"But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first."

Yup, that was me! Distracted... smh. I was the seed that falls on the ground but can't grow and be fruitful because of the cares of life. It's almost as I told God what He did on the cross and His resurrection from the grave wasn't more powerful than the petty curve balls life had thrown my way.

Mark 4:19

"but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful."

Thank God, I became desperate enough to want to go back to the way I felt when I first gave my heart to Jesus. I got in the Word and read all the scriptures that told me who I was to God. I prayed for the Holy Spirit to fall afresh on me and fill me so much that nothing else mattered. I remembered how broken I was without God being the center and how far I've come to never want to feel that again. And because He's so faithful He showed up and told me, "keep it simple, trust me."

Matthew 7:7

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

1 John 4:19

"We love because He first loved us"

Do not allow society or religion to dictate your relationship with your savior. Go back to the first time you fell in love with your God and how you knew you could conquer the world in Him. Nothing has changed about that truth, so fight doubt with it.

Reflection: Do you find yourself wanting to go back to the passion you had when you first gave your life to Jesus? Are you looking for that first encounter with His love that it changes your life forever? Keep it simple no need to jump through hoops - Jesus said He loves you and came so that you could have an abundant life. If you know that truth - it will set you free, like it does me, everything.
